“Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, no matter how improbable, must be the truth.”
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Sherlock Holmes)
So where to start?
Well i guess I start with the book. It’s a 2009 print of the Sherlock Holmes stories. It’s 1122 pages printed on bible paper, it’s heavy and dense. From Vintage Classics.
I’d read the first story when I bought it, ‘A Study in Scarlet‘, and only a week ago did i pick it back up. Of course i’d meant to many times, but the shear weight of the book made it seem a daunting prospect. Which was silly of course. I mean the short stories run about 15 pages and the novels about 100 (So far). So a week ago I picked it up and read ‘A Sign of Four‘, and then read ‘A Scandal in Bohemia‘ (Irene Adler Aka: The Women). And today i’ll be reading ‘The Red Headed League‘.
What i love about reading these tremendous stories, is that when I then watched the two Guy Richie movies with Robert Downy Jr and the BBC television show ‘SHERLOCK‘ with Benedict Cumberbatch, I found that I started to pick up more of the references, like in the final episode of season 2, ‘The Reichenbach Fall‘, where Sherlock comes up against Jimmy Moriarty, Moriarty kept saying the phrase “The Final Problem“. Which is the name of the chapter where Sherlock kills himself and Moriarty.
So, that’s my current Sherlock Holmes kick in a nutshell.
